Toxic work culture - worst place I have worked - Postdoctoral Researcher John Innes Centre Employee Review

Pros

great scientific support that you would not get elsewhere

Cons

At least 80% of group leaders are incompetent managers, who either micromanage, bully or abandon staff. If you want to be successful in science the research culture on site will harm your scientific progress - they gave absolutely no feedback or support - the culture is literally 'jump in the deep end, hope you don't drown'. Group leaders have an extreme case of survivorship bias. Because of this, the environment is not collaborative at all - everyone is fending for themselves. Worst place I have ever worked.

Pros

It is so far one of the best research centers I've been. It has by far the most cutting-edge technology, incredibly talented PIs, as well as other peers and PhD students, good for networking and they also provide nice trainings and courses to develop news skills.

Cons

Work-life balance is not the best. The prevailing work culture here appears to normalize extended working hours and frequent weekend presence.
