Pros

Free fertilizer and the owners going out of town.

Cons

Micromanaging by owners, toxic work environment, favoritism, expensive benefits, and having to wait a year to participate in 401k. My experience at JR Peters was extremely disappointing. The biggest issue was the leadership culture created by ownership. Meetings often felt unproductive because the owner would interrupt people, talk over them, and finish their sentences instead of allowing employees to fully explain concerns or ideas. This made it difficult to have honest conversations or feel heard. The work environment often felt tense, with many employees walking on eggshells. Instead of encouraging open communication, leadership created an atmosphere where people seemed afraid to speak up or challenge decisions. This led to low morale, frustration, and a lack of trust. There was also significant micromanagement of day-to-day operations. Rather than empowering employees to do their jobs, ownership would often involve themselves in small details while still making sudden, impulsive decisions that affected the team. Direction could change quickly, and employees were left trying to adjust without clear communication or consistent reasoning. At times, the owner would personally step into operational tasks, including getting on a forklift, seemingly to prove a point rather than to support the team. These situations came across as unnecessary and created additional stress for employees who were already trying to do their jobs under pressure. In my experience, both owners contributed to the stressful environment. Concerns were often dismissed, reframed, or made to feel like the employee was the problem rather than the issue being addressed. Passive-aggressive behavior from leadership made communication even more difficult and added to the overall tension. Overall, JR Peters has some hardworking employees, but the leadership style from ownership makes the workplace stressful and discouraging. I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for professional management, stability, open communication, or a healthy workplace culture.
