Pros
Like other traditional Japanese companies, there is a culture of so-called [lifetime employment] and [seniority]. Individual performance is not so important for promotion, and promotion is not based on promotion, but only on [whether the boss likes you] and [years of experience]. This makes it a good match for those who want a stable job without worrying about layoffs.
Cons
On the flip side of the above, those who have a passion for high performance as individuals may be frustrated that the payback in salary for it does not always meet their expectations. IT engineers in particular are paid relatively low salaries relative to their market value, and as noted above, salaries are determined by years of experience, so salaries for IT and other positions are almost identical. Thus, in terms of salary, it is not a highly attractive place to work for IT engineers.
