Pros

Diversity of work so you get a chance to work in a lot of different sub-disciplines of Civil Engineering.

Cons

The office environment is horrible, it feels like a graveyard because of how quiet it is. Unrealistic expectations for hours, they expect you to put in overtime even if there isn't a submission coming up. That being said, there is a lack of flexibility in start time and if you're out the door by 5:00, even if you worked 8 hours, you are probably going to get some dirty looks. The managers average 60 hour weeks and if there is a submission coming up expect to work past midnight and be at the office on time the following morning. Measures to improve your performance are not addressed until it is too late and they have already given up on you. They don't use industry standard software like MicroStation or Civil 3D, they use a cheap version of Civil 3D called Carlson. So good luck finding a new job after all your experience is in an obsolete program. Basically, clients are prioritized over the employees here so if you want to be happy at work, I am confident somewhere else would happily employ you.

Pros

Smaller firm so relationships are stronger amongst employees and opportunities to grow are vast. Strong reputation throughout NOVA

Cons

growing a smaller firm gives opportunities for everyone to be hands-on in the direction of growth.

Pros

Got good exposure to projects

Cons

My experience was very mixed. One of the principals can be disrespectful and at times openly mean in how they speak to staff. It creates an uncomfortable environment and makes it hard to feel supported. Feedback often felt more personal than constructive.
