Pros

The job is interesting and engaging. Management works closely with the team and earnestly listens to our feedback and recommendations. Tasks, projects, and priorities are mutually agreed based on our skills, interests, and underlying necessities. It's refreshing to work in a place where I can influence and understand strategic decisions, rather than a flurry of conflicting priorities and management-by-crisis from above. There is minimal pressure to be in the office past core hours. For those rare times I've stayed late, dinner has been catered. Coworkers are friendly and competent. Weekly we self-organize various events that everyone has, to various extents, participated in, including dim sum, rock climbing, tennis, and robotic meetups. Often our families and significant others join in too.

Cons

As a small and young company, many processes and policies are still being developed. I've seen a lot of progress over the past few months and it's only getting better. Some underlying tools and processes, common to many engineers' work, could use a bit more of our focus so we don't accidentally re-invent the wheel a few times internally.

Pros

- Lots of opportunities for project ownership and control, even for interns - Culture is great, everyone is super friendly and I felt like a valued member of the team - Having a split office (SF + Reno) was very neat. They do a good job trying to keep both in sync, which includes a free trip to the other office where you get to tour operations - Very flexible policy on schedules was great for me. I am a morning person, but a lot of my team are afternoon people and we had no problems working offset (by maybe 1-2) schedules - Work life balance is generally very good. Almost all of the crunch time I saw was limited to upper-level management, which is IMO how it should be

Cons

- Lack of general scale can make some projects unsatisfying to see through - Typical complaints of an open office design being too distracting and not my style - If you aren't okay with using C++ or Python (or both), this job is not for you. (Could change in future, only relevant in 2019)
