Pros

Investment over the last few years to modernising engineering delivery & bringing focus to quality, speed and scale. Cloud, engineering tooling as well as workplace technology such as G-Suite, MacBooks options and Udemy access. Long Weekend is also an awesome perks. And the secret weapon, Andrew Todd, a Top 50 CIO/CTO - he really is the best leadership hire that happened to Iress in the most recent era. His leadership - empathy, business acumen and solid technical background created a differentiated workplace culture that has attracted amazing talents to Iress in the recent years.

Cons

TL; DR - McKinsey has come to town. Along with new management crew that lacked diversity in thoughts, a men-boys club with limited to no understanding of product led growth yet beats the drums about shifting to product led. Instead of assessing whether the existing exec team is match fit, removing just a single c-suite with fairly disrespectful explanation to internal people, that probably also didn’t fit into your “love working with younger people” criteria… Removal those LT+1 leader in prior org structure, the change agents that have faced into difficult conversations - agitated positive change, made material impact, created value to Iress. Ironically the kind of talent you need in times like this, but they were thrown under the bus by whoever got in your ears first. Opaque promotion of people with no merit or relevant experience. Such as the prior group CFO who facilitated hairy back forecasts with no real understanding of software… now running one of the key business units as CEO.

Your detailed and open feedback is appreciated. It is a tough time for us at the moment but the transformation we are going through is necessary to ensure we are set up for success and growth moving forward. We also recognise that some people will not support the changes being made, and will choose to leave Iress as you have done - we accept and respect that, and wish you the best for the future.

Pros

People, Good central office (Melbourne) Staff benefits are ok

Cons

Engineering management is a let down - poor behaviours, micromanagement, lack of trust - the list can go on. Seems to get swept under the carpet or ignored so patterns continue to fester and have for years.
