Pros

Nothing happens here so you have time to network and find a better job. Since you have nothing to do, you can make times for friends and family.

Cons

Though you have much time to look for a new job, employers in Silicon Valley are either very aware of Intertrust as a patent troll or have no idea what this company is or what you've been working on. There are nearly no paying customers, therefore there's no engagement with the wider world (count how many of your colleagues are on the sales team). No one knows them. They acquire teams from Eastern Europe for pennies on the dollar. These teams are convinced that they have been saved and were thrown a life line from Silicon Valley. A tragedy! In most cases, the teams would have been better off continuing to struggle at home without interference from Sunnyvale. There is no discipline around product. The product team is really mediocre. They could fix this by implementing SDLC processes supported by rigorous enforcement. If my colleagues read this, think about the the last code review you attended. What is best practice here?

Cons

not stable financially (constant layoffs); no growth opportunity, flat structure (you will be stuck with a senior title for ages); no severance package after layoff even when you gave 15 years to the company;
