No work life balance, salary employees are the bottom of the totem pole, worth a fraction of what operators are worth - Salaried Engineer International Employee Review

Pros

Fellow comrades are all of the same opinion, so at least you're in good company. Plenty of opportunities for community goodwill. Medical benefits/costs are VERY good.

Cons

Employees walk around on eggshells because management does not have the nerve to tell you if you're performing poorly. Instead, they'd rather get ready to fire you, threaten you, and yes, cuss you out in meetings. Double standard - what's fair for one employee isn't the same for another employee, see it all the time. No work life balance - management is proud of the mantra "we do what it takes" not understanding people have spouses, wives, husbands, and kids, church, etc, and not everybody lives and breathes Navistar. Operators on the line have more clout and pull than engineers. Watched an operator call out a member of lower management and upper management took the word of the operator, and made the lower mgmt apologize to the lowlife operator who only had half the story. Corporate staff is clueless about life at the plants. Image is everything - clean and shiny floors mean more than employee morale. Opportunities for advancement are a joke - only happens if they like you and peg you on the "leadership track". Funny that they pay for operators to get accounting degrees, IT degrees, maintenance degrees but when those positions open up internally, do they promote the same people they just paid to go to school? No, they hire externally, while the operators resume their positions on the line. And lastly, I feel I have actually lost intelligence coming here. I did more, knew more, learned more at my previous position. Coming here, my job went from engineer to (while still having the title) paper pusher, lemming, brainless idiot, whose only job is to get product out the door and chase down problems no one really wants to fix. Come if you have to, but if you value your intelligence, integrity or sense of self-pride, you'll choose another company.
