Pros
Japanese kids (and adults) are great to work with. You get all the same holidays the kids get, which are quite generous. The overall experience is rewarding.
Cons
The pay is far from stellar and you get paid less during holiday months (50% in August, 75% in December). There's a huge variance in workloads from placement to placement (in my experience, elementary school has a lot more classes than Junior High, which in turn has more classes than High School). The culture shock can be overwhelming and often isolating.
