Pros

There is honestly nothing I can write as a pro that would come close to outweighing the cons.

Cons

There are several cons, but the most significant is how they treat their employees. Piggybacking off the previous review regarding the mass layoff in Feb 2021– I have never felt more disrespected as an employee or worked for a company that handled a layoff in such a cruel, unprofessional manner. We all received an unplanned calendar invite on a Monday morning FOR that morning. The CHRO was clearly reading a script that read the company is going through a “restructuring process which requires a reduction in force, if you are on this call, your position is part of this reduction in force, effective immediately”. I remember this short meeting verbatim— it’s hard to forget a cold, emotionless delivery regarding our livelihoods like that one. It’s important to note that after this meeting, I heard absolutely nothing from my own manager or anyone from the management team. I still have not to this day. There was no appreciation for the work I had personally done or any sympathy for the fact that I was now unemployed during a worldwide pandemic. I received a generic offboarding email and everything was deactivated that day. The official layoff letter indicated I lost my job due to a “reduction in force/position elimination”, which excluded me from receiving any financial relief during the pandemic for my rent/car/other necessities while waiting for a stimulus check, so that also made matters worse. Intelligent Waves significantly exacerbated the most unpredictable, emotionally tolling, and financially stressful periods of my lifetime and many others.

Thank you for taking the time to write your candid review. Intelligent Waves appreciates and understands the hardship that any person may experience when reduction in force changes are necessary. All companies must adapt and reinvent organizationally to scale for growth and expansion. It is especially true in the federal information technology and cybersecurity market, where change is a constant. Like many other companies, COVID-19 had a significant impact on our business operations, and Intelligent Waves found it necessary to make this difficult decision to ensure that our organization remains competitive and healthy in support of our government mission partners. We value the contributions of every IW colleague, and when changes necessitated by market conditions and the pandemic occur, we do our best to support each individual through their transition with dignity, compassion, and respect. Moreover, we fully understand the impact on our employees’ lives and want to offer our support in any way possible. We hold ourselves accountable to high standards and our goal is to deliver a great workplace experience. Your individual experience certainly didn’t reflect our intent or values. Since your feedback is anonymous, we invite you to connect with us directly so that we can address any concerns in person. We look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Heidi Parks Chief People Officer Intelligent Waves

Pros

The People and the Culture: I honestly loved the crew I worked with. Since it is veteran-owned, there is a real sense of camaraderie and a "got your six" mentality that you just do not find at the massive defense firms. Real Career Movement: I saw people get promoted pretty quickly if they actually put in the work. They do not just let you sit in one spot for years if you are ambitious about moving up into more senior engineering roles. Cutting-Edge Gear: You are not just doing basic maintenance. I got to touch some really interesting tech like encrypted networks and AI solutions, which kept the day-to-day from getting stale. Solid Pay and 401k: The salary was competitive for the Vegas market, and the safe harbor 401k match is a huge plus because you are immediately vested.

Cons

Growing Pains: Sometimes it felt like the company was growing faster than the office could keep up with. Processes for things like performance reviews or internal communication could be a bit hit-or-miss. Health Insurance Costs: While the overall benefits are decent, the medical premiums felt a little steep compared to what some of the bigger contractors offer.
