Management has a very rudimentary system for checking productivity leaving out many things done by the employees. Management has also stated that employees' opinions don't matter and have a hard time understanding that machines break a lot on weekends with no management around and tech problems happen all the time without a full-duty IT. As productivity is now a main goal in the lab, if you are below the average employee in the department it is considered means for improvement even though the average means people will be below that and making the average be for all shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and weekends). Hopefully, they get their act together, but there is high turnover for a reason.
