Pros

Good people and, if you can become staff, decent benefits. Depending on project, flexible work hours, and a small team feel.

Cons

On paper ICT is an amazing place where a lot of really cool things happen. In practice... This is not the place to go if you want to get something done. Everything moves at a snails pace, and management seams happy to keep it that way. Most managers care more about getting funding for next year than actually being productive. Everything is about kicking the can a little further down the road and showing incremental successes so they can justify another year or two of funding. It does not have to be good, just good enough. Way to much politics. - You are working in Academia with the Military being one of your primary funders. Everything is political. Little to no chance for advancement - If you don't have a PHD, you will not last long. NO job security. Most workers are on 3-6 month contracts, but funding can dry up an any time and you could be gone.

Pros

Super flexible with work hours, they provide transportation to/from the office, lots of opportunities to work in different areas, attend talks, see the work of other project managers, ect. Overall you learn a lot & are exposed to a lot.

Cons

Bus schedules that take you to/from the office are far apart so you're kinda stuck there for longer than you're supposed to be

- Short-term contracts; low job security; project/funding dependent - Top heavy management style (ratio ranges from 1:5 to 1:1, and sometimes even 3:2) - No over-time - No room for growth - Many things (ie. HR, work hours, style, conduct) conforms to University rules - Many office bureaucracies - Facilities department hinders management's flexibility in space usage as well as cripples employees' work space freedom - Work pace fluctuates dramatically
