Pros

Great people, mostly. Decent benefits. Delightful CEOs (Chuck & Cynthia).

Cons

Management that is hypocritical and overtly biased. Negligent and gross behavior. Not a safe place for many. Pay not great. Lack of business awareness.

Pros

The staff are genuinely loving and very gracious. Benefits are good, fair pay, lots of grace when there are mistakes. Dr. Swindoll's teachings are just so great, prayer is really valued, and a work-life balance is encouraged. The ministry's coffee shop is also a unique and fun plus. If you have a good supervisor it makes a big difference.

Cons

It is hard to write out the things below, but it should be said. There are many wonderful things about Insight, but I want to be honest about some specific problems. There are parts of leadership that refuse to listen, adapt, delegate, and empower staff so that the ministry can flourish in the 21st century. Internal organization and communication is inefficient and certain leadership have no idea or no interest in understanding how to make the organization and communication efficient. Many processes Insight uses are outdated and it is frustrating for staff who care about being efficient. The way the ministry tackles projects is fragmented, slow, and bottle-necks with micromanaged approval processes from leadership. Several key departments are overburdened, understaffed, and do not operate like a "well-oiled machine”. While working at Insight, it was hard for me to see that donor money could be used far more effectively and wisely, but several key leaders are closed-off to innovation, unaware of how to innovate, or do not empower others to innovate. There are quiet "immunity rules" for certain leadership/staff and certain subjects. These "immunity rules" show up when someone tries to directly address that a certain person/department was responsible for a problem in a project or for bad results in an initiative. If what you say goes against what certain leadership want to believe or the image certain leadership want to maintain, you will be dismissed and possibly treated differently. It can be subtle, but it quietly infects the broader culture at Insight. In my time at Insight I saw staff refuse to be fully honest because of fear of how they would be treated if they were honest about certain leaders' ideas or execution of plans. (Shouldn’t staff be able to be honest with leaders at a Christian ministry without fear?) There are departments where you can talk about problems directly —which is how it should be— and departments where you can’t. If you’re in a department that can’t address problem-people or problems directly, it creates inter-office politics. Morale is unfortunately low. Favoritism/familiarity overrides competency and that's led to unfitting or unqualified leaders/supervisors in several positions. Many staff left or were terminated in 2024 and 2025 and from my point of view (and other former employees I have spoken to) it is due to poor leadership, persisting underlying problems, and a dated/boring work culture. I do not want to be malicious or harsh, but there are problems and many of them relate to how certain leadership lead and operate (This is not all of the leadership obviously, there are several really amazing leaders). I experienced many blessings from working at Insight, overall my experience was good, and for many it can be an excellent experience. But I can agree with several of the other low-star reviews and believe they are valid experiences former staff have legitimately had at Insight.
