Do not work here...Great if you don't mind working 80+ hours a week. No Breaks- Fired for concerns about hours. - Banquet Server/Captain/Manager/Houseman Inn by the Sea Employee Review

Pros

I was only employed here for a month...but in that time...I was driven to within an inch of my sanity. I saw no pros. I give it an F. You are expected to do 3-4 different jobs at once even though you are only hired for one. On top of that, the management doesn't know what the job they actually hired you for entails...so if you question it...YOU WILL GET FIRED!!

Cons

I was fired for no reason AT ALL..after completing an 80+ hour work week the week before.. The manager didn't know what she was doing. It seemed great and wonderful at first...but quickly fell apart. Plus there will be 8 people coming behind you telling you all the things you're doing wrong.

Pros

It is a beautiful location on Crescent Beach State Park and employees get free beach access which is so nice in the summer not having to pay for parking. Other staff members are for the most part very friendly and we all joke around with each other and have a good time. Benefits for Full Time are pretty standard, but not incredible. But they do do a holiday party every year where you can win free stays at other fancy hotels which is awesome. Some guest can be difficult, but we get a lot of regulars and it is nice chatting with them when they come in. Overall, compared to the other places I have worked for in my time, I would say this is a pretty nice place to work at.

Cons

Guest can be a bit problematic since most people that stay here are rich they can be a bit snooty. Not fun to deal with them. Cape Elizabeth is also kinda far from everywhere unless you are in South Portland, Portland, or maybe Scarborough, otherwise you are traveling at least 30 minutes if not more. Pay could be higher, it's not the worst, but when you have Portland next door at almost $17/hour for minimum wage, this place isn't the most competitive. Also, since it is a hotel open 24/7 it was kinda a bummer having to work holidays sometimes. But my manager was pretty good at making it equal among everyone and actually some people wanted to work those days so I ended up not having to work too many. But can't really think of much else.

Pros

-Pay is usually above average -You can stare at the ocean when you’re stressed out -Dog friendly (they’re also for stress)

Cons

-Management tries to recapture impossibly elite standards, forcing an increase in revenue with little to no staff, and a certain few immune from criticism. -The property is falling apart in various different ways, and the company won’t replace/address anything or hire more staff. -Team morale is non-existent, you’ll never get praise or be good enough, guests will always be upset about the many things broken, and your grievances will fall on deaf ears as they find ways to force you out. -Little to no work life balance. -No paid maternity leave.
