Pros

Caring for the elderly is an incredibly rewarding job, offering insights into their world and making you a more compassionate individual.

Cons

When I started working there, there was no contribution forwards petrol despite upwards of 100km per week being travelled on a part time basis. When petrol was brought in, it was 50c per call excluding first and last call, meaning it didn’t meet any realistic petrol expenses. Not to mention general depreciation and wear and tear of car ( plus insurance, tax, nct). The schedule was updated on a day to day basis which is ridiculous! Everyone understood that the nature of the job meant that timings may change but being sent to different homes every day made it impossible to build any relationship with the clients. Majority understaffed meaning that management were constantly asking for extra hours. Schedule often didn’t make sense ( I.e. half an hour call at 8am, next call not till 11am…) Meant that you might be in work for 14 hours but only paid for 8. Time between calls (I.e. the time it takes to get from client a to client b) was not paid. Also towards the end of my tenure there were clients who did not need care, they needed a cleaner which is not the service the company provided but management didn’t mind staff doing theses jobs. I actually had a client tell me that due to Covid , her cleaner quit which is why she got staff from iniscare to come in, plus “it’s free”… not a wise use of taxpayers money in my opinion.
