Laid back atmosphere, but not a place for anyone with career aspirations - Taxonomist Info.com Employee Review

Pros

The place has a very casual feel, including in dress code and interactions. It's pretty flexible for scheduling (you can come in and leave kinda at your leisure, as long as you do 40ish hours a week).

Cons

The managers are not business people, so the place is very inconsistently run. High level managers are also very passive and conflict averse, which sometimes turns a fairly routine problem into a huge mess. Communication is poor, and rules for how things are done change constantly, without it being told to everyone. There are no concrete performance measures (oftentimes you're not sure if you're doing well or poorly), meaning promotions seem arbitrary and have little to do with strong performances (or with just doing nothing). The work is very tedious, and everyone is silent despite all sitting in one giant room. There are very few transferable skills learned here, but having said that, the pay is very low for industry standards. Another issue I had is that the company regularly shifts teams around, and physically moves everyone around, meaning you never have the feeling that you have ownership over a desk or even your work. Managers don't seem to understand how unsettling that is, and it adds to the feeling that the company views you as a machine and not a human. Similarly, contract workers never know if they'll be kept on or have their contracts renewed, and even permanent staff have been let go without any warning. If you need temporary work, this is a fine place, but if you're looking for a career, look elsewhere.

Pros

The atmosphere was relaxed and supportive. Everyone took their job seriously, but they were still friendly. Both bosses and coworkers were willing to give you any help you needed.

Cons

Because it's a young, growing company, you can never be sure how long temporary assignments will last. But they do keep you updated.

Pros

Casual dress code, paid time off, option to do overtime, good location

Cons

There is little opportunity for advancement here and the pay is below industry standards. Even those few who have been promoted -usually because they have been there for many years- only make a few dollars more than new hires. The work is very monotonous and the limited skill set used is rarely beneficial for other jobs, making it difficult to find other employment after working here for more than a year. Rules are often inconsistent, sometimes literally changing from one week to the next. Most workers are kept in one large room, where the overhead lights are never turned on for some reason. Very depressing. The temperature in the main room is kept low, so be prepared to freeze your butt off in both Summer and Winter. Info.com/Zenya is a very new startup, so be prepared to be brought on temporarily, and possibly let go after a few months, as company revenue and available work fluctuates.
