The pit of despair: I had 6 years sucked from my life. - Senior Supervision Principal Independent Financial Group Employee Review

Pros

Some of the co-workers are really good people, but I'm sure this is the case everywhere.

Cons

Disrespected. Underpaid. Underappreciated. Overworked. Did I mention underpaid. I climbed up from the mailroom to upper/middle management showing as much initiative as anyone and was still treated like a tool. Had to threaten resignation for a promotion after obtaining three financial licenses in two years. I always felt respected by everyone in the company, except 2, or 3, of the three men in charge of everything, whom I saw everyday, but am not even sure they'd remember my name. They call all the shots with seemingly little consideration for outside input. Company requires regular overtime. No micromanaging, but no appreciation, either. After 4 years of unkept promises and 1 failed attept to resign, I could not take it anymore. My pay upon leaving was so low it's laughable, it would be hard for another company to believe I held the position I did.

Pros

Access to industry tools and platforms common in the independent broker-dealer space • Some flexibility depending on role and team • Opportunity to gain exposure to compliance and licensing processes

Cons

Workplace environment felt uncomfortable at times due to inappropriate comments and behavior that crossed professional boundaries • Concerns about how issues related to professionalism and conduct were handled (or not handled) • Ethical standards felt inconsistent with what I would expect from a firm responsible for client assets and regulatory compliance • Culture appeared more focused on protecting the firm than addressing employee concerns • Lack of transparency and accountability when questions were raised The compliance department has been a mess for many many many years. Largely due to the former CCO and her inability and lack of experience. Every day, firms are upset about the tools they provide, and are secretly planning to jump ship among other reasons, like many employees here. Morale isn’t good at all.
