Pros

The company teaches kids to read. While it's still a for-profit company, it's very refreshing to be sitting in meetings with IT people and developers talking about how our product can better help kids learn. The bottom line is not the bottom line here. The mission itself attracts a different kind of employee, so the feel is just different here. Very creative, uplifting, and fun. On top of that, the company just treats its people right. The pay for my team is well above average for the job and the area. The benefits are great. The company shells out a lot for health, dental, HSA (they deposit a very nice amount every month regardless of what you put in!,) PTO, and sick time. The company was bought a few years back, but the mission has very much been maintained as far as I can tell. I can't imagine a nicer environment, a better team, or a more worthy cause.

Cons

Because the company was bought, there are no stock options available. Like most other medium sized companies, communication and processes need help. The management team seems very self aware, however, and is always seeking to improve.

Pros

Pay is competitive. Remote work. A few days a week of regional travel at the federal compensation rate. This has been an educational entry-level job to learn the basic stakeholders and sales cycles for K-12 curriculum. The people I work with are great and knowledge/experience is a strong resource at this company.

Cons

The higher leadership of the organization does not foster a positive, collaborative culture. Different teams/regions work in silos. Any collaboration and communication happens primarily by our own individual efforts. Also, systems change yearly. It's difficult for everyone to adapt, and as a result the sales team has little faith in following the process. Job security is iffy. There has been continuous talk of eliminating my position in my state for over a year now.
