Pros

Remote work flexibility and diverse roles offering opportunities for professional growth

Cons

Working at Constellation Software, particularly within the Constellation Dealership Group at Perseus Group, was a mixed experience that heavily depended on the team and management dynamics. Despite having a long-standing association with the company, spanning around 5 years in different positions, the work environment, especially in the Canadian office, presented several challenges. One of the primary concerns was the absence of a healthy work-life balance. As a remote employee, the expectation for overtime work, even during weekends, became a norm. The director, who was also my manager, consistently piled on tasks, making it challenging to focus on main projects. This not only impacted productivity but took a toll on my mental health. The management style of the director further exacerbated the work atmosphere. Regular group meetings became platforms for public criticism and humiliation. Mistakes, even minor ones, were deliberately pointed out in front of the team, creating a toxic and demoralizing environment. This approach extended to waiting for opportune moments, like team meetings, to address issues that could have been handled more privately and constructively. Despite a commendable track record of consistently meeting or exceeding expectations for over 3.5 years in the offshore office, the transition to the Canadian office was marked by a sense of being unwelcome. Inclusive gestures, such as invitations to team events, were lacking, even after expressing my interest multiple times. The culmination of this experience was an unexpected termination, delivered without any prior notice or indication. The manner of termination added another layer of disappointment. Having worked over a weekend, as requested by the director, I was let go on a Monday without any advance communication or a proper explanation. The absence of overtime pay and the impersonal nature of the dismissal, carried out by an HR representative I did not even know, further highlighted the lack of consideration for employee well-being. One notable aspect of my tenure at Constellation Software was the significant professional relationship I developed with the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) over a span of five years. Collaborating closely with the CMO, I contributed to various projects, including managing Salesforce and Pardot, coordinating newsletters, and facilitating communication between different business units. The working relationship was marked by shared goals and a commitment to achieving marketing objectives. However, despite the years of collaboration and the shared successes, the conclusion of my time at Constellation Software was met with surprising silence from the CMO. Following my unexpected termination, I reached out to express my shock and gratitude for the years of collaboration, seeking closure or an understanding of the circumstances. Unfortunately, there was no response to my email, leaving a sense of unanswered questions and a lack of acknowledgment for the significant duration of our professional association. This experience highlighted the interpersonal dynamics within the organization, revealing that even longstanding professional relationships could be overshadowed by the broader organizational environment. While the challenges were present, the absence of acknowledgment and communication from a colleague with whom I had closely worked for an extended period added an unexpected dimension to the overall experience. In conclusion, my experience at Constellation Software underscores the critical role of team dynamics and management practices in shaping the work environment. It became evident that success and recognition were often tied more to personal relationships with higher-ups than the actual contributions made. While my time at the company had its share of challenges, I remain appreciative of the skills and experiences gained throughout my tenure.

Pros

Fast-paced, lots of innovation, really fun and laid-back team, profitable with good bonuses

Cons

Conservative company that is not fast to invest huge amounts of money. The upside is that there aren't lots of bets into wasteful projects, and layoffs are extremely rare.

Pros

The employees for the most part are good people and want to do a good job supporting their customers. The software they sell and support is really good.

Cons

I should, in full disclosure say that they eliminated my position and let me go (they did not hire anyone to replace me. They divided my duties among the others that stayed with them. This came;; within 6 months of this company telling us that they wanted us to do the things we have been doing and they were not going to reduce the workforce moving forward. They ended up laying off somewhere between 10 and 20% of the company. The company that owns it now (Constellation Software) has changed the basic philosophy from "do whatever we can to assist the customer even if it means we make a little less money" to "Make as much money as possible, no matter what it takes. People don't mean anything, just make more money." I used to be proud to work there, even at a lower pay rate than would be expected for the position I had and with my education. Now, I'm actually glad they let me go.
