Pros

The best part about working at Ivy Prep is the students. I made a lot of close connections with them and really connected with many of them.

Cons

They will not pay you for all the hours you work. You will repeatedly need to remind them to pay you for the extra activities you do. They will promise parking and travel stipends and then never give them to you. They promised a six month review and raise, but whenever I brought it up they would change the subject. All of these things happened to the foreign teacher who started before me and they happened to the foreign teacher that started after me. The facilities are terrible. The projectors and printers and speakers are often broken, which makes planning your lesson impossible. There are literally rats in the ceiling and running around the office. They will also give you very few books or other resources, but expect a lot from your classes. They will give your little or no notice before giving you new classes (even if you've never taught that kind of class before). They will give you new students without informing you. They also really don't care about education. They only care about making money. It never mattered how much I inspired my students or exposed them to new ideas. What mattered to them was filling seats and using me as a marketing gimmick.

Hi there! Since you've left, facilities have been greatly improved on campuses. From the sounds of your description, you were working at the old Xã Đàn campus, which has been closed down completely for a while now. I certainly agree with you that it was not at all optimal for teaching! There was also a refresh of all information technology about a year ago, and all teaching support aids (computers/projectors) are now in full working order. I am surprised to hear that you were offered a parking stipend given how astonishingly cheap parking is in Vietnam. The current travel allowance is based on distance, and you need to exceed a certain distance threshold before you are eligible, although I can not comment on if that was the case during your time. In my own experience as a foreign teacher, I will say that your comments are accurate regarding short notice new students, but this is fairly standard in the industry and arises because parents will walk in with their children and then be given a trial class to see if their child likes it. That said, classes in public schools change composition with just as little warning! I would disagree with you about the focus of the company, although one's impressions on the matter will largely depend on who you had interactions with, and management has undergone several changes since your time. The company you describe from 2017 is quite different from the one I work for currently, and in many ways, it seems like your advice may have been heeded!
