Pros

Some opportunities exist for independent action allowing you to grow as a working professional

Cons

Even if presented with logic, achievable objectives, timelines and more so KPIs, these are continually ignored by the management. Individually dictated terms often steer the direction of the organization. a) INBAR spends a lot of time and money on events that seem to tow the political posture of the government irrespective of how it is perceived by the other member states b) The core director team consists of 95% Chinese, foreigners have little to no chance of being a part of this, irrelevant of their actual expertise, experience or ability to deliver sound results c) The salary structure is often changed without a clear guidance on growth. Please be aware that while 'officially' there is no bonus it often seems to be given in secret to Chinese staff who are known to be close to the relevant people c) The organization has a figurehead with no control whatsoever on the way it is being run. Also known to be highly unsupportive of foreign staff. d) An extremely political organization with more emphasis on pushing personal agendas rather than organizational objectives. Senior staff (who have been here for 15 years or more and are Chinese) have held on to their positions and in most cases been elevated to higher positions irrespective of the fact that they are unqualified to do that job. While equal opportunities are a right of all individuals based on deliverables and performance. On the other hand, a number of them are in fact related to each other in some manner e) Continual usage of INBAR funds to create relationships within China which based on guidelines utilized by most IGOs, governments and international organizations may be deemed as unethical behavior f) Supposed to be a support organization to INBAR, ICBR does, in fact, use INBAR for its own goals g) Continual fall in production of value-added literature that is well researched. Most literature available now is a regurgitation of past material. Emphasis on producing INBAR approved literature showcasing private companies and individuals in China A lot of qualified and competent staff who have now moved on to other organizations have left with a terrible experience at INBAR. For people applying here, it is recommended to try and reach out to employees who have worked here in order to better shape their decisions. By no means is INBAR as an organization a bad company, what it is, is an organization filled with incompetent people who are not going to be leaving their comfortable jobs any time soon. Please note the organization does not let go of non-performing Chinese staff even if there is sound evidence of their lacklustre performance.
