Pros

— Benefits (401k, pay for health care, good paternal leave) — Decent people — The mission Decide to apply? Negotiate more. Go as high as you can. They can afford it. You’ll want to be paid for what you have to deal there. Once in they’ll nickel and dime you. Then they’ll “level” you to others who have far less qualifications and experience.

Cons

- they can be underhanded. They play favorites with positon, with money, with titles. - too much work and lopsided responsibilities. A company will take advantage. ICANN takes this to a new level. Save yourself the headache. Don’t let the benefits fool you, you can find better with less stress. - lack of diversity especially with BIPOC in the US. They think it’s not a problem. There is bias. Look at the teams, you’ll notice it’s a rainbow of beige and you’ll be lucky to see an American person of color above a manager or Sr. Manager role. It’s evident and has been for years. - the new salary, grade structure thing has meant people aren’t promoted to the right level because it would mean “skipping too many levels”—for work they were ALREADY doing and their job description is exactly the same as that level. Let that sink in. - the level of people in high positions that really don’t know squat about their role or job is unparalleled—unparalleled. This means no real learning and development AND you’ll be doing more work at a higher level but not getting paid for it, especially if your manager is incompetent. - they’re always trying to solve the SAME problem. The same exact problems the org had 10 years ago — pay, promotions, hiring wrong managers, projects, awful practices, etc is still the same. It’s bizarre but it’s true.
