Pros

The owner is quite paternalistic and believes in supporting employees with a specific emphasis on 401k matching (7% + profit sharing). There's also a history of unexpected bonuses given to employees that have ownership's finger prints all over them. The CEO also seems motivated to do right by the employees and is invested in making it a place employees want to work.

Cons

Not a good place unless you are just starting your career or you are in senior management. There's a toxic positivity perfectly exemplified by the employee portal ("Connect" Facebook-like website). On this portal, there's an implicit expectation for employees to give effusive praise to the company and the management team. There's no space for employees who might have suggestions that might not echo management's stance in totality. In fact, any feedback that hits the level of tepid or lower is viewed as almost being insubordinate. I think some of the reviews on this site exemplify this (see the number of reviews with no cons listed). This leaves room for 2 types of feedback; public and effusive praise, or anonymous, exasperated criticism. The "great place to work" designation is often cited as proof of a healthy culture, when in reality, the culture breeds "yes men/women". I'm not suggesting that all rank in file employees are unhappy, but I think the ones who are satisfied are also generally unmotivated to grow in their careers and are happy to just fly under the radar unnoticed. This is also not to say that there are no people who are promoted from within, but the ones who do get promoted are generally defined by their willingness to embrace the mythology of "the IAT family"; not necessarily their talent level. In a nutshell, if you want a culture that thrives on innovation and employee feedback, this is probably not the place for you.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. As you indicate, me and the Kellogg family are sincerely invested in making IAT a place employees want to work and build their careers. Our investment in compensation, training and development, inclusion and diversity, and benefits like the 401(k) match, tuition reimbursement and college loan repayment program all support that. We’ve worked diligently to build an inviting, supportive, and dynamic culture at IAT. That’s why we welcome feedback regularly and consistently because we want to cultivate diversity of thought and ideas. Continuously challenging ourselves is how we progress. We hold each manager accountable for creating an open environment and encouraging their employees to share perspectives, thoughts and ideas. We proactively invite questions, anonymous or not, at our quarterly CEO webcasts. The annual workplace culture survey is anonymous and we ask for direct feedback on how we are doing at all levels of the organization and what suggestions they have for us to get better. We receive positive and constructive feedback both directly as well as anonymously. The balance of the feedback is very consistent across all channels which to me is encouraging and tells me that our employees do feel comfortable being openly constructive. I have that experience personally each time I pull small groups together at all levels of the company. We have changed and/or implemented policies because of the feedback received from employees such as timing of bonuses, parental leave policies and dress code to name a few. Our Community Forum discussions led to our current hybrid schedule because employees shared how important some flexibility was to them, understanding that we could not remain 100 percent remote long term. Employee innovation has propelled our $60 million Unity technology investment, entry into three new markets and the launch of several new products over the last three years. In fact, we believe our positive culture spurs innovation, teamwork, and agility. Is IAT the best place for everyone? No, but we will never stop striving to be the best place for ambitious, talented and kind people who embrace our vision and are dedicated to our mission. Pros

Extremely generous 401k match, great amount of PTO (even as a new employee), College Loan Payment Assistance (Yes, you read that right! It's unique and amazing). Days are busy with engaging and interesting work but hours are typically fairly regular, leaving sufficient time and personal capacity to fully enjoy my life outside of work - great balance which is one of the things I enjoy most about working at IAT! Most of claims is now on one amazing claim system - state of the art! Fantastic progress vs. just a few years ago when IAT claims was working in numerous outdated, difficult systems.

Cons

Small company which can feel a bit limiting in terms of career path. However, IAT really leverages every opportunity to help employees have their desired careers, switch lines of business, etc. Small down side relative to the many advantages of working for IAT.
