Pros

Hy-Vee's engineering organization is relatively new, switching from outsourcing work almost 2 years ago to bringing everything in-house. With that comes a lot of opportunities, but also some drawbacks. - Most teams are working with modern tech stacks (React 16, ES6, React Native, etc) - Lots of talented engineers are working hard to develop the culture - Great amenities at the Technology Center in Grimes - Flexible working hours - 401k plan is great (+ 1/2 of 6% contribution match after vesting period) - Competitive salaries and PTO - Profit sharing bonus (generally 3-6% yearly)

Cons

- Remote work is acceptable sometimes, but not always encouraged - Upper management can be slow to make decisions, leading to delays - R&D is often viewed as an expense versus a revenue driver - No open-sourced code - Some managers have a lot on their plate - could be better about delegating

Pros

Hy-Vee is a great company that truly cares about the communities we serve. Our 14 fundamentals drive both the customer and employee experience, guiding how we treat and serve our customers and each other. Leadership actively seeks employee feedback and uses it to drive meaningful change across all locations. There is a wide variety of jobs and career opportunities in many different areas of the company from retail to supply chain, IT, marketing, and so many more. obust employee benefits include tuition assistance for degrees, certifications, and foundational learning at little to no cost to employees, and the company focuses on promoting from within for most leadership roles.

Cons

As a 24/7 retail business, scheduling can be demanding in some roles — though the variety of positions means there's flexibility to find the right fit. With a large, decentralized workforce spread across hundreds of locations, consistent employee communication is an ongoing area of focus and improvement.
