Pros

- As crazy as it sounds I actually did get a lot of enjoyment out of this job but not for the reasons you probably should. My coworkers were pretty outrageous and hilarious. - There's a ton of general trash talking. You will very likely get an appropriate (and hilarious) nickname. This for the most part is all done in jest and honestly makes the job more fun. - You stay in shape 😅 - Money is good with all the overtime

Cons

The absolute worst part of this job is being forced to work on the paint line despite that not being in your job title. I completely understand that you need people to fill in every now and then but we were working the paint line more than welding. The paint line is essentially modern day slavery. I'm a strong individual that regularly works out. I can deadlift over 415lbs and still some days on the paint line are brutal. Unloading the dreaded "IBH" beams are a special form of hell. These days will absolutely destroy anyone...I don't care how tough you are or how hard you think you can work. I'm honestly amazed that practices on the paint line are even legal. The amount of physical fatigue that comes from loading and unloading beams ALL DAY FOR 10-12 HOURS in the heat is extremely problematic. I've seen tons of injuries happen due to fatigue. The paint line has OUTRAGOUS turnover. It's genuinely hilarious. People won't even make it half a day before they walk off. I feel bad for the people doing all the paperwork to hire these people. Despite being a welder I feel like I rarely welded. Even when you are "welding" it's mainly a physical labor job where you're moving metal around and essentially tacking it into place. Outside of a few scenarios most of your welds will be roughly an inch long. This is a very physical job and you need to be in shape and to be honest...be a man. I have seen female welders attempt to work here but weren't physically strong enough to do the job. You are 100% treated like a robot at this place. Working on second shift I never interacted with any upper management of any kind besides the supervisors. I have no complaints about my direct supervisors that were actually on the floor with us. One common complaint was always the ventilation. When all the welding stations, machines, and paint line are running the fumes get very thick. I asked around and this has been a common complaint for years. Another example of the upper management failing. The hours at this place are insane. While I worked there nearly every single week was a 60 hour mandatory overtime week. This went on for over 6 months until I got tired of having no life outside of work and burned out in general. "Some mandatory overtime required" actually means 60 hour weeks for months on end. You may be surprised but the turnover at this place is immense. There were less people working there than when I started...and they were hiring the whole time! Every day you'd hear phrases like; "Man...I hope this place burns down..." "I can't wait until I get fired..." "I'm gonna go get on Facebook in the bathroom for an hour" "I wish they didn't fire all the crackheads...I'm sick of working on the paint line..." The employee morale is so bad that people jokingly sing slave songs loading beams onto the paint line. After working countless 6 day weeks I began to see people drinking in their cars and visibly on drugs. Some of these people have legitimate problems while others were just clearly drunk from the night before. The craziest thing is that this didn't even bother me at the time because I damn near wanted to join them some days... I know I'm not endangering the jobs of my fellow co-workers (who I like) because this place doesn't have the balls to drug test anyone. The turnover in this place is so high that they can't afford to lose 60% of their employees. It's like one of those movies that so bad it's almost good...but then you realize it's just bad.
