Pros
Depending on your supervisor, you may be self directed most of the time. This worked well for our area, but may not work for all. Good technical people supporting some technology roles, but many are retriring or retired.
Cons
Huntsman talks about a way of promoting engineers through a technical track, but it is all talk and no action. Too much reliance on pushing decisions to higher levels where non technical or even specific business managers have no say.
