Pros
Rewarding work, great benefits, everyone from the top down is dedicated to the wellbeing of the animals. You get two days off together. Birthday off paid. There are plenty of opportunities for advancement and/or specialize training if you're reliable, do good work, and have an unproblematic attitude. Highly inclusive culture and a safe place for LGBTQ+ people.
Cons
The work is hard, physical, and not for those with delicate hearts. Compassion fatigue will happen if you're not taking care of yourself, and sometimes even if you are. You'll see plenty of animals that have been dealt a bad hand in life. You'll witness people needing to surrender animals, and how difficult that choice is for them. Euthanasia is uncommon but happens when it needs to.
