Animal care can be hard, emotionally speaking

All the animal love you could ever ask for, higher pay than most entry level jobs, above average benefits, great continuing education and exposure to new skills, and personal support- with the feeling that they care- from the big guns upstairs (which goes a long way). Plus the job, at its most base level, is the most rewarding job I’ve ever encountered. At the very least, everyone is able to bond over their love for animals.

Because the work is so exhausting, both physically and emotionally, the shelter turns into a tense, and sometimes passive-aggressive workplace- which is to be expected. What compounds upon that is the fact that there’s no productive or fruitful outlet to deal with problems- constructively- with either direct supervisors or coworkers; most are forced to act professional at the cost of bottling this stuff up. The training could be a bit more thorough to increase quality of stay for our animals, but great coworkers help with that.
