Pros

Holiday shutdown between Christmas and new years

Cons

Do you like being micromanaged? Expected to do 4 disparate jobs under one weird title? Working with too many cooks in the kitchen? Working somewhere that innovation is frowned upon? Then Human8 is the place for you! There is no autonomy, asynchronous collaboration doesn’t exist, and project teams are at the whim of account managers/OS’s instead of project managers. There’s no clear delineation of work for project managers and assistant project managers. Unless you’ve risen up through the ranks here, no one takes you seriously. Projects are scoped by people who don’t deliver them… so you’re thrown into something you haven’t helped create, usually with an unrealistic deadline, and expected to just make it work. Instead of working in qualtrics, tableau, or any other system that would translate to somewhere outside of Gongos, you need to learn their strange internally built system that is anything but intuitive. No annual raises, not even meager 1-3% loyalty or cost of living adjustments. The people who’ve been here 20 years only stay because they’d be laughed out of the room if they took this sort of behavior to any sort of formidable research agency or corporate company. Every time I personally have made a suggestion, whether for something small like a report input or larger like best practices from previous roles (which I was encouraged to share during the interview process, because they “ LOVED that kind of stuff “), it has been shot down, so I no longer try to add anything of value. What a great mentality for employees to have! I’ve never worked in a role where I had to ask permission for every little thing project related (can I send this for review? can I edit this content?), either because OS’s refuse to give up control or because I haven’t spent 15 years here, or both. If you work quickly and finish all your work early, instead of being able to hop out of the day early you’re expected to ask around and fill in your hours doing other people’s work. Same goes with tile sheets, if you log 50 hours one week and only 35 hours the next, you’re reprimanded for only doing 30 hours even though no one thanked you for giving up your free time the week before.

On behalf of Alfred Ishak - Vice President People Strategy. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate your honesty and transparency. It’s clear that your experience at Gongos/Human8 was not positive, and we're very sorry to hear that. We've reviewed your feedback carefully, and we’d like to address the concerns that you've raised. Some are legitimate shortcomings that we’ve acknowledged and have already taken steps to improve such as the lack of empowerment that you experienced and the overreliance in some areas on legacy processes. We currently have a small working group putting thought and effort into moving the needle on this topic. We’re not alone in dealing with issues like this, but we realize we can do better in this area. Other concerns you’ve raised seem to be much more a matter of opinion. For instance, our use of a proprietary survey platform is something that many of our employees love. We actually conducted pilots and tests with other survey platforms and our employee base overwhelming preferred our current platform. Also, your perception that our account people are unrealistic in their scoping of client engagements is another thing that seems a bit subjective. Many of our account people are some of our best researchers and strategists, and most play significant roles in the actual delivery of the work. That being said, it’s still a concern to us that any of our employees would feel like they are faced with unrealistic timelines, so we’ll explore that one further. We also do want to address items you’ve included that are plainly false. You stated that we don’t offer annual raises. This is just not true. We conduct a very robust annual salary review and the overwhelming majority of our employees receive annual increases in salary. Some do not, but that is most likely due to individual performance issues. In those cases, employees should receive clear and direct communication about why their performance is not up to the standards of their peers. On the topic of diversity, this is something that we are constantly striving to improve and have made some gains, but we know there’s so much work left to do on this front. Our hope is that our employees see the investment and efforts that we’re putting towards DEI initiatives and together we’ll continue to make more and more of a difference. Again, thank you for your perspective and feedback. We’re sorry that your experience wasn’t more positive. Our goal is for every employee to feel fulfilled and empowered but know we won’t be the perfect fit 100% of the time. If you are currently employed with us, we urge you to reach out to our People team. The issues you cited are fixable and we can work together in creating a better working environment for you. If you’ve moved on, we wish you the best in your future endeavors!

Pros

- Great place to learn/build a foundation. - Get to touch lots of projects and some cool clients - Cool office and perks - Great people and collaborative vibe - Ability to grow and specialize role based on strengths, experience and interests - Working for another vendor after this and also going client side you see that they really "get it", do things the right way and have a solid process to ensure quality work and you learn good habits after moving on.

Cons

- Pay is just ok - Depending on manager/team, experiences can vary - Occasional long hours, but no more or less than rest of industry
