Pros

High profile company with strict hiring standards, a giant pile of cash to play with, and extremely clever people playing with some of the latest technology and biggest genomic datasets.

Cons

As the company pivots into new territories (i.e. The slow-moving and regulated field of diagnostics rather than fast-paced research) all the best employees realise they can get a better deal elsewhere and are leaving. What used to be an international team of world experts in genomic and data science is slowly turning into a shadow of it's former self, as it continues to lose talent and is unable to attract any more. The management don't seem to have a decent business plan beyond "sequence lots of genomes" and are clutching at straws to be able to monetise my spreading teams thinly to create many (often competing) products, creating chaos. The upper management's indifference to the challenges facing individual contributors is palpable, and the company refuses to acknowledge the issues at hand and don't care for any of the business ideas proposed from people below. Now is not a good time to join HLI as the company continues to lose employees at an astonishing rate (some sites have seen almost 50% turnover in 2016). Wait and see how the company is doing in 2017 after the dust settles.
