Pros
Great learning environment overall, especially if mentored under the right type of person (this factor is critical especially if employed in its India office - most US-based Hughes Systique and Hughes Networks Systems employees - techies or managers - are truly world-class).
Great working environment in some projects and groups - the good managers and leads are truly awesome!!!
Cons
Extremely top-heavy org structure - about 40% employees have a 'manager' tag, and about 20% of all employees have corner offices.
Number of total employees has remained stagnant over the last 5 years or so - a BIG negative for an aspiring IT Services major.
Business acumen of some (not all) of the senior management folks is questionable.
House of Extremes - the bad managers can be pathetic at best, horrendous at worst. Sycophantic culture has permeated some parts of the company. Generally considered to be a retirement resort for all senior management types (most of whom have been peers from Hughes Software Systems/Flextronics Software Systems/Aricent). Your chances of vertical growth beyond Senior Principal Engineer/Engineer Manager are next to nil if you are not of the right pedigree (read: an Aricent/HNS/HSS/FSS alumnus).
