Pros
Almost nothing. I would just save a competitive salary, a well known global name and the canteen in the sites offering this service.
Cons
I joined with high expectations after being promised a clear strategy, investments, team growth, and collaborative opportunities in Europe. Unfortunately, none of this materialized — and what followed was a sobering experience in how little value is truly placed on European expertise within this organization. The European branch operates entirely at the mercy of decisions made in China, with no real strategic autonomy. Communication is almost entirely top-down, often in Chinese, and local teams are excluded from most key conversations and decisions. There is strong internal competition between Chinese teams, and any initiative from Europe is treated with suspicion — as something that could threaten internal power dynamics rather than add value. In practice, there is little to no interest in fostering innovation or leadership outside of China, especially when it cannot be directly controlled. As an experienced technical leader, I found myself without a team, without tools, and with no support to deliver on the responsibilities I was hired for. I was often asked to produce deep technical content or strategic materials (slides, analyses, proposals) which were then translated into Chinese and circulated without my knowledge, feedback, or visibility — effectively treating experts in Europe like a Wikipedia resource: extract information, offer no feedback, and give no insight into how the material is used or distorted. After being promised team growth and long-term investment in Europe, the message quietly shifted to encouraging extended stays in China — with the implicit assumption that there is little meaningful work to be done locally. This expectation was never disclosed during the hiring process, and runs counter to the commitments that were clearly stated during interviews. No remote work flexibility is offered, even in contexts where hybrid work is widely adopted. There is strong pressure to be physically present at all times — even when local teams are under-resourced and underutilized. To anyone considering joining: be aware that this is not a collaborative, transparent, or empowering environment. The company does not seem to be building toward anything stable or strategic in Europe. Instead, you risk becoming a disconnected content provider for someone else’s agenda, with no say, no visibility, and no respect for your contributions. In summary: -No strategic autonomy in Europe -Experts treated as info sources, not contributors -Strong internal competition and territorialism in China -Opaque communication; most decisions happen behind your back -Materials are translated and shared without feedback or control -Broken promises on teams, investment, and role scope -Long stays in China subtly pushed without prior agreement -No remote work flexibility -High pressure and lack of respect for work-life balance -Risk to professional motivation and personal reputation
