Pros

The summer internship program at Houston Methodist Hospital provides interns with training that can be very valuable on a resume. The Six Sigma project, as well as the roundtable discussions with hospital VPs are great learning experiences. Interns get the chance to interact with individuals at high levels of the organization and the lucky ones are involved in day to day operations.

Cons

Certain interns are unfortunately misplaced with individuals that do not have the time to contribute to their learning and development. It may be the intern's responsibility to seek work elsewhere and may not learn as much about the organization as his/her peers.

Pros

Great organization to grow professionally in healthcare operations. Strong focus on patient care, quality, innovation, and leadership development. I’ve gained valuable experience in physician support, operations, workflow improvement, and cross-functional collaboration while working with talented teams and leaders.

Cons

Fast-paced environment with high expectations and increasing responsibilities. At times, leadership roles can feel under-titled compared to the level of operational work being performed. Work-life balance can also be challenging during staffing shortages, major initiatives, or clinic transitions.
