Pros

For more than seven years, I have been honored to serve San Diego's most vulnerable children and families by working at Home Start to prevent child abuse. There are hundreds of tragic headlines that never happened and thousands of bad stories that never ended up ruining children's lives thanks to the dedication of my colleagues who serve local parents and children each day. From housing, therapy, and employment assistance, to parenting classes and hunger relief, we are helping local families have brighter futures. Just recently, I heard a powerful story from our Behavioral Health Services team. A young 13 year old girl "Samantha" had been bullied so badly simply due to the color of her skin that she left school and was beginning to have thoughts of suicide. Thankfully, her mom brought her to Home Start for our life-changing therapy services. The therapy and her amazing therapist have been helping her immensely, and she now has hope for a brighter future.

Cons

The housing affordability crisis makes it so hard on children and families and we continue to see demand for our services.
