Pros

You can get some experience on Hobart equipment, and take this experience to get paid higher and have more value elsewhere. There is a false connotation across the industry that Hobart techs are good technicians. While this is true in some cases, across the majority, this is a gross misunderstanding from an outside perspective.

Cons

Hobart Service does not respect it's employees or its customer base. Unethical business practices have become the "norm" or "status quo". These are current states of affairs as of February 2022. Hobart Service does not value its employees Work/Life balance. Hobart Service used to offer one incentive. Double pay for working Sundays. Hobart has since revised this policy to "7th consecutive day" Meaning you must work the six days prior to Sunday to qualify for double time. Being wise to this plan, the managers now schedule employees so that you will never get paid double time for Sundays. This strategy is achieved by forcing the employee to take a day off during the week they are scheduled to be on call for emergency service, to prevent the employee from getting more than 40 hours on that pay period. Hobart Service seriously lacks integrity and morals, by charging customers after hours rates and then sending the technician that worked after hours home early so as to keep that technicians hours at 40 or below to avoid paying overtime. So you will be forced to leave your home and family to run an after hours call, followed by getting sent home early the following day so that you will not be paid over time on your pay period. All the while, the customer is being charged the much higher after hours rates for this service. If you do not run an after hours call, you will be faced with write ups, threats, and termination. Hobart Service pay scale is below industry average, while charging the highest rates in it's respective areas. Do not try to understand why you're being paid so little and charging so much. Management has another meeting to post on the company social media group of everyone sitting around and eating or partying while you're in the field at 9pm not being paid overtime. I found it extremely humorous that one of corporate employees chose to make many posts with a volley ball appropriately named Wilson from the movie "Cast Away". In this movie we see Tom Hanks making a desperate attempt to survive on a uninhabited remote island from a plane crash. Which is not unlike what you'll be doing as a service technician for Hobart Service... desperately trying to survive. A large portion of the management team has no field experience and has no clue as to what goes on with day to day activities. However, Management is at the ready to tell you how to perform your job! Micromanagement is the current business model. Be prepared to answer questions about "idle time" in the truck. Be prepared to answer questions about the route you drove to a job, or at which speed you drove to the job, or why you stopped somewhere along your route to use the bathroom or grab a drink and a snack. GPS is hawked by many managers and to your writes ups will follow along with threats of termination for doing simply daily activities. The company HR department is an absolute joke. HR will do everything they can to protect the ignorant management team and screw the employee over. I personally know of serval technicians that have suffered on the job injuries. It was the goal of Hobart Service and it's HR team to prevent these employees from getting the care and access to care they needed. Be prepared to Hobart Service to claim that your injury is preexisting, which will leave you without unemployment benefits and undoubtedly put you in great financial strain or bankruptcy. This company will NOT do the right thing by the employee if a work related injury arises. Be prepared to seek legal assistance in any work related injury situation. There are no company Holidays. If you are scheduled to work on Christmas, or the 4th of July, you must work that day and observe the Holiday at another time, which must be approved by your "manager" The employee insurance is expensive for such a large company, and the prescription service is managed by CVS. CVS does an absolutely terrible job, and will undoubtedly leave you needing your medications. If you have diabetes or other ailments that require continuous daily medications, be prepared to spend unneeded and unnecessary time trying to get your prescriptions filled and sent before you run out!
