Pros
*nice building /facilities
* nice community building activities to do as a whole school
Cons
*favoritism
*lack of appreciation for diverse world views other than Asian (not welcoming of BIPOC other than Asian- one of my black students came to me and said that “they would not work with him”) there is a real need for students and staff to embrace all races and have tolerance/ learn of other world viewpoints.
* lack of support for staff
* favoritism
* dishonesty and unprofessional actions taken by administration
* clock hours not given to staff when they earn them
* lack of initial needed training
(They don’t make up for it if you are hired after the training already happens)
- you are a number
* don’t expect to have the teaching position you applied and interviewed for.
It will change last minute.
* if you decide to leave, they will take your good supplies: the ones you worked for, brought yourself from working over summers and had as your personal teaching props and materials - and brought there -
And they will pack up garbage and things that aren’t yours and are meaningless into boxes and give to you.
* no accountability - waiting at a meeting and new teacher doesn’t show up.
Management asks me why I am not helping her.
I explain that I went to go get her and she was having tea but comes to me the morning of and asks me “What are we doing today ?”
I tell them that I am spending all the time preparing and she isn’t showing up.
They tell me that they expect me to help her.
I cannot if she doesn’t show up.
* asked a teacher to cover me during hall duty as I have to go to restroom. She agrees.
Two students decide to go into my room and start a fight.
Management brings me into office and holds me accountable saying that the kids’ fight is my fault (but I never see any of the admin in out hallway during passing time that year)
And the schedule was not made for a break that would allow for a restroom
Break - it had been more than a couple of hours.
* basically blame but never support.
