Pros

Fun to dress in Colonial garb and interact with visitors from around the world. Get to be educational and entertaining. Really keep up your acting chops and improv skills, as you're always "on" Get to delight people from around the world, as this gig is essentially street theater.

Cons

The heat. But they warn you about that when you audition. You're in historically accurate dress, consisting of long sleeves and multiple layers of fabric during the hot summer months and most shifts are outdoors. The pay. Even after returning for several seasons, was never offered an increase in pay (not even an additional quarter per hour). They always said that rates were at a "freeze" They are a non-profit, relying on grants and donations for their operating budget, and there's no guarantee that you'll get any extra hours, get your contract extended into the Fall, or be re-hired the following summer. The hours. Often shifts are only a few hours long in the middle of the day, making it difficult for someone to get another part-time job to make ends meet. Or they add another shift in the evening, where you are off the clock for a few hours and unless you live close, you basically take an hours-long dinner break without pay, or unsuccessfully try to sleep in the dressing room.
