Pros

Stable industry. Exposure to high-volume genetic data processing.

Cons

The most prominent issue is the extreme micro-management regarding time. This focus on "desk time" over actual output creates a stifling atmosphere where even short breaks are scrutinized. The hiring and technical standards are inconsistent. It often feels as though technical proficiency is secondary to finding someone who will simply follow rigid SOPs without question. This leads to a team with very mixed skill levels, making high-level collaboration difficult. The compensation is significantly below the industry standard for Associate Software Engineers. The starting pay seems to have remained stagnant for years, failing to account for inflation or the specialized nature of the work.

Pros

There is a strong sense of camaraderie among the lab teams and a shared commitment to the scientific work.

Cons

The workplace faces significant hurdles regarding employee retention and professional culture. There is a noticeable lack of a standard benefits and a shortage of the resources necessary to perform roles effectively. Internal communication is inconsistent, which often leads to an unorganized work environment. The management style is restrictive rather than empowering, leaving little room for professional development. While the staff works incredibly hard to support one another and improve the atmosphere, there is a disconnect between leadership and the well-being of the team.
