Pros

Decent pay if you work enough, company vehicle to take home, company cell phone

Cons

They expect you to work regardless of what else you've got going on. The hours are long, especially in the summer and it always seemed like there was an office that never had enough technicians so we were constantly given routes 2+ hours from home. You weren't given any kind of break the next day if you had to work late. If you get home at 10PM you can still get a 2+hour drive the next morning and are expected to be there on time. The company loves to force techs to work extra days. That usually means 6 days on, 1 off, and most of those days are at least 10 hours long with several pushing 12. Their sole focus is sales, and I don't mean selling service to customers. Selling junk while you're in their home fixing or installing service. You had to meet a sales quota, when I was there it was $15 per job. They say $15, but they constantly push you to get more. If you're a good salesman, then you'll do well in the company, because they promote based on that. You can be the best tech in the company and the worst salesman and they'll treat you like pure garbage. Management is a complete and utter joke. They talk down to employees, threaten their jobs if they have a complaint, and just generally don't care about anything but numbers. The entire company culture revolves around numbers and dollar signs. There was constantly some shady practices going on both in regards to employee treatment and rules established by Dish Network in their contract. If Dish knew all the things that have been happening behind their back then HPTS probably wouldn't have a Dish contract anymore. They've got a good system in place that allows them to deduct money from your paycheck without it running afoul with the labor board and you have basically no recourse if that happens to you. You've got to purchase all of your small parts (fittings, cable, screw clips, etc). I wasn't even reimbursed for what I hadn't used when I left, so they got that money from me and probably resold it to another tech. If they treat you like a human being once then they'll hold that over your head anytime you complain, like they did you a huge favor by treating you decently. Oh, and that last thing that other reviewers have mentioned, benefits don't cover your spouse. The part they left off is that those benefits are expensive and totally not worth it. So to summarize, steer clear if at all possible. Don't let their promise of high pay fool you into becoming another slave for this place. The money just isn't worth the stress and aggravation they'll put you through.

Pros

They pitch a good job in the interview. After you get into the field you are constantly being harassed to make sales of a bunch of useless crap and any time you don't they threaten to fire you. Always holding it over your head and they look for any reason they can find to discipline employees. There is also NO work/life balance. The job is now your life. The company van and cell phone was nice though.

Cons

Management pushing sales of useless crap. Micro managed to death.
