Pros

Free t-shirts and hats. That's about it.

Cons

Typically when you think of a startup you envision go-getters led by a visionary leader whose sole purpose is to grow an idea/service for the betterment of their employees. Not here. This is an Old World environment with limited pay, overworked employees who garner little-to-no respect for their hard work, next-to-nothing in benefits & incentives, minuscule PTO, and an antiquated vacation policy where you're forced to take unpaid days off during the holidays. Not to mention the sketchy East Villiage location where homeless vagrants run rampant in addition to internal hiring procedures based on principles of nepotism rather than merit.

Pros

The company and its founder have a great vision and knowledge of the men's gear space. If you put in the work, there are opportunities to grow. The company provides equal opportunity for all.

Cons

The company is located downtown, so parking can be a challenge but not a deal-breaker.

Pros

Plenty of free gear and clothing, especially around the holidays. Lots of nice coworkers and some cool subject matter to write about. A good place to learn how to write and publish Google-friendly content. Apparently, you can get a job with a competitor pretty easily.

Cons

Speak to any number of the former employees and managers and you'll hear the same story: an owner who pretends to care about making it a nice place to work and never, ever follows through on his promises. In fact, some legitimate complaints are addressed with punishment (more of what was complained about yet agreed to be an issue and fixed during a review/meeting). I know of at least 3 managers in the same role who got sick of the broken promises and quit -- yet nothing is ever done to fix it. Hardly any "real product reviews" despite ample opportunity to create amazing content with first-hand experience around the gear and products we know and love. It's always quantity over quality and that won't help your portfolio as a writer over time or make you feel proud of your work on a regular basis.
