Pros

Flexibility Great colleagues Good product

Cons

Things are changing at Help Scout. And not for the better. The turnaround at higher levels is frequent. Money is very tight, revenue is not looking good. They just reduced pay for some contributors (about a quarter of the company). There are rumors that geo based compensation is coming next. They used global compensation to attract top talent worldwide, but are now changing their tune. There is a lot of propaganda but no real transparency. Big changes are not announced properly.

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback — I know the last year has brought a lot of change, and that hasn’t been easy. While I can’t speak to rumors, I can clarify a few facts. We have not reduced anyone’s pay, and we haven’t implemented any new pay cuts. We did move to a geo-based compensation model to ensure fairness, compliance, and long-term sustainability as a global company. That shift did not reduce pay for existing teammates, and it was communicated through multiple channels with space for Q&A and discussion. Our leadership team agrees that transparency through change is critically important. We’ve worked to communicate openly about the business context, our evolving compensation philosophy, and our ongoing priorities — even when the news is complex or hard. We’ll continue to focus on stability, clarity, and support for everyone on the team, while maintaining the flexibility, product quality, and people-first culture that have always defined Help Scout. -- Leah, VP of People

Pros

Honestly, if I could give it 4.5 stars, that would really be my rating. I like it here, but it's definitely not perfect. The people are pretty amazing. They're smart and kind and generally people I'd want to hang out with if we lived in the same place. But we don't, because we're 100% remote. And that's pretty awesome too. People love our product. It's nice to work for a company that people genuinely appreciate. We're definitely customer-focused, which is so much nicer than some of the companies I've worked for where they're just obsessed with the next enterprise deal. The work-life balance is solid here. Lots of parents and people who have lives outside of work. The opportunity for ownership is great. I'm the kind of person that likes to drive my own work and tinker with problems, and I get that here.

Cons

It's messy. I've been here a year and there's definitely a lot of whiplash from strategy changes. At times it's really hard to see where we're actually going, but things have felt a LOT better since the Fall, and I'm genuinely excited for what we're doing right now. There's a lot of turnover. Some teams just feel less stable than others.
