Pros

Currently - none. Previously, years ago, decent training for a new agent.

Cons

This is a corrupt company. They take advantage of agents. A typical agency will keep between 20-30% of the paid carrier commissions. A reasonable amount for training, technology, marketing, processes etc... However, they routinely keep 50-70%. Do not expect to be paid on time, consistently or accurately. Draw your own conclusions, either they are extremely incompetent or unethical or both. If you question, you will be ignored, belittled and treated worse than a common criminal. The company pushes agents to sell supplemental products from a company they own. The products look good on the surface and agents are taught extensively how to push/sell these products. If you do not sell a significant amount of them you will be routinely chastised. The products may look good on the surface. However, wait until a client submits a claim. It takes 6-12 months to get the claim paid, if the claim ever get paid. HealthMarkets will tell you they do everything for the agents. The "for" needs to be changed "to". Sure you can buy leads from the company at a discount price. However, go directly to the lead companies and you can get better rates and significantly better quality leads. When you realize what is occuring and leave, the independent agent contract is one of the most restrictive in the industry. They keep 30% of your commissions they already kept 50-70%. They do their best to keep you from making a living. You cannot sell any carriers you were appointed with for at least 6 months. I can continue providing information. However, I think you have a clear picture this is not a company to ever be associated with, unless you are a corporate executive looking for a lucrative contract with no need to have scruples, good morals or ethics. Oh, and many of the positive reviews you see are submitted at the badgering of sales leaders and other company employees.
