Pros

There is lot of priority and intentionality in self care and taking time off for yourself. There are summer fridays off, collective days of rest, and holidays such as Juneteenth.

Cons

I have continuously challenged my supervisor in their management style and lack of equitable, collaborative practices. In my attempts to confide in someone on the team, I was met with gossip and bullying among them. Throughout my short time here, I have never felt like my professional development or even comfortability in my role was a priority for anyone. You might ask why I didn’t approach someone about this. Well, that’s simple - we did not have an internal or external HR. I feverishly debated approaching the Executive Director with my challenges, but it is very clear that they are both personally and professionally close with my direct supervisor, which I feared retaliation for approaching them. This organization claims to be inclusive, but many colleagues have voiced transphobic rhetoric with no corrective action.

Pros

Flexible scheduling, remote, opportunities for professional development & travel

Cons

During the last year of my employment the company culture was extremely poor. I brought concerns to leadership about my manager, which was met with push back. Personal relationships were prioritized instead of the value in hearing everyone’s voices and equity like they preach externally. FTE are exempt, meaning you don’t get paid for overtime. There is a lack of openness to change and improve from leadership. The work being done by employees was not valued in terms of salary. As an organization consisting of BIPOC womxn, the intersectional issues we faced were not considered.
