Health Union is toxic, classic “we are a family” red flag, and possibly a sinking ship. They act like they provide above and beyond for their people, but they offer bare minimum pay across the board, and nothing special when it comes to benefits, etc. while expecting you to praise them for it. The leadership of this company is full of leaders who will talk down to and belittle you, and there is very much a distinct flavor of fear in the company among those who are not in positions of influence because of this. You cannot speak up, contribute, or propose new ideas and solutions without being gaslit, labeled as a problem, and made to feel like everyone else thinks the company is perfect and it's just a “you” problem. I thought I was the only one feeling some of the ways I felt until I discovered many people felt the same but were too scared or tired to speak up. The nepotism is deep. They are fully aware the pay is low for everyone and attempted to justify low compensation equating to job stability, and then laid off a large chunk of the company after first mentally and emotionally torturing us with the announcement "layoffs are coming" followed by no significant updates until a month and a half later when they laid everyone off. I guess the update was "you have no job". Not sure there’s a “good” way to lay people off, but it absolutely could’ve been more tactful. Will be interested to see what happens to this company going forward. I sincerely hope the good people who remain can get out quickly as they deserve better. I learned many lessons here, unfortunately a lot of them being red flags to be aware of going forward. Health Union initially attracted me and many others in with their “company values”, “people first”, and ended up being an incredible disappointment.
