Pros

A lot of smart people, sales group is friendly and accessible, benefits are decent for a small company. The CEO is a very nice guy with a positive attitude.

Cons

Complete lack of communication/disconnect between upper/mid management and contributing employees. I find the place a little claustrophobic, you work very close physically witt the people you work with. Some team members are great and some are difficult to communicate with, but the one constant is that you are on top of each other all day. Instructions are lacking and 'mistakes' are documented and used against you when there are performance questions. However, middle management gives you no indication that there are issues until you are bombarded with them all at once. Overall its a very negative environment where you are afraid to make mistakes. HR is basically there to do the bidding for upper management and 100% toes the company line. Lots of lawsuits after terminations Lots of re orgs and management changes with the same results or worse. They hire a sales VP for a month and then fire him and promote people in the management clique - results do not change. Each years the bookings #s go down and there seems that there is no way to stop the slide.

Pros

HMS promotes from within and deals honestly with its associates. The company went through a reorganization in the last year and the development, product direction, and sales teams are focused and hit their targets for 2012 and will likely do the same in 2013. It is a good place to work. Pizza Friday is offered on a quarterly basis pending target achievements. Spot bonuses and monthly employee appreciation is acknowledged. Company is open with employees about status of the company, goal attainment, and ways to help the team reach the goals. Work/Life flexibility is important to the company. Quarterly town halls clearly show employees where we stand in terms of targets and attainment so you always know how the company is doing. Conservative in their revenue estimations, so you're unlikely to get a false sense of company performance.

Cons

Small, but growing company. Growing pains are good pains, but sometimes it is bad in the sense that workload is sometimes intense. However, they are good at seeing the workbalance issues and addressing them. Multiple positions need to be filled to help even the workload for each of the teams.
