Pros

Health Catalyst has some of the absolutely best people I've ever had a chance to work with-- good, decent people that are extremely talented and mission-driven. That has been an absolute pleasure these last several years. Complimenting that, the mission and opportunity of the company are incredible-- something that feels real and meaningful while also being aspirational.

Cons

Lately, it feels like company leadership has been overwhelmed by the difficulties presented by COVID. Unfortunate company pivots have been marred by the impact of COVID on our client base and now leadership is scrambling to make decisions to navigate these difficulties and often making them with what appears to be a limited or myopic lens. Many senior leaders are some of the most compassionate people you'll ever meet, but many seem overwhelmed by the circumstances the company finds itself in and willfully limiting the information and view points they are considering in incredibly important decisions.

Thanks for your thoughtful review. I, too, believe that we have the best team members! And I agree that market realities have been difficult lately. However, I believe our tech-enabled managed services offering has incredible potential to help us achieve our mission on a larger scale than we’ve ever seen. As to heroics in our leadership, please share more with your Leadership Team member about what you’re witnessing. I think oftentimes leaders serve as a “human heat shield” to protect team members, which is appropriate. But that can be taken too far, which is when leaders benefit from kind, direct feedback. Thanks for your more than 5 years of contributions to our success! Best, Dan Burton

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
