Pros

The company: Health Catalyst is a top notch company. The Health Catalyst executive leadership team cares about the team member experience and lives up to the operating principle of transparency which is refreshing. Internal training options have come a really long way in the last year so team members can grow their skill sets. The work: The work we are doing at our client sites is making a difference. I can see how our work lines up with the mission of the company. We are transforming healthcare and are just scratching the surface of what is possible when we harness the data and bring it to the variety of end users. Even though it sometimes seems to be small steps we are taking with the clients (meeting them where they are), every step is important. Work/life balance does exist even though sometimes we are sprinting to meet client deadlines. The benefits: Excellent benefits. There was a small increase to medical benefits, but compared to other companies it is still very affordable, and I love the HSA option where Health Catalyst matches contributions. This has really helped me and my family. I am excited about the new TAVA and SWORD Health additions.

Cons

The promotion/leveling process: This is still confusing to team members. This may get squared away post-pandemic but confusion is still there. I'm not sure team members are getting promoted at the rate that has been discussed during All Team Member meetings. There are several top performers who I've talked to that have not received a pay increase or promotion over the years. Is someone looking at this? Additionally, I understand that with some promotions into positions with more responsibility team members could be moved into a lower pay band. So team members end up getting paid the same for more responsibility. Any clarification around this would be appreciated. Different team member experiences: The experience you get at Health Catalyst is highly dependent on the team you are on or the manager you report to. This should be looked at in great detail. For instance, some managers go to bat for their team members, forward on opportunities and excel at career growth and development conversations while other managers are not as team member centric. I am hoping this type of feedback would come out through the 360 review process.

Health Catalyst Response

Thank you for this review and feedback, and thank you for your contributions to the company for more than five years! Thank you also for your kind words towards me, I appreciate it very much. I'm encouraged to read of the positives of your experience, including the company's mission-orientation, the work itself that is making a difference, and the benefits received as part of the compensation package at Health Catalyst. I appreciate your constructive feedback and advice as well, and find it to be insightful and resonant. Regarding the promotion process, we definitely slowed down the number of promotions in 2020, commensurate with the slowing of the company's growth through the pandemic. As our growth is ramping back up, we should see a commensurate uptick in the number of promotions in 2021, and the next wave of promotions (likely over 100) will occur in the next 2-3 weeks, which should be positive. I also agree that we need to keep our focus and even deepen our focus on each team member's experience with their direct supervisor. This may well be the most directly correlated element (even perhaps causal) tied to team member engagement. We'll also be implementing the 360-degree annual feedback process within the next month or so, and this will provide really important data about how we're doing -- what's going well and where we need to improve. We'll focus here. Finally, you have my commitment to keep the Health Catalyst Way at the center of our decision making in the months and years ahead. And that includes recognizing team members and their engagement at the center of the Health Catalyst flywheel. Thank you for your more than five years of contributions to that flywheel spinning faster and faster. I am very grateful to you for those contributions. Best, Dan

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
