Pros

I have nothing but high remarks for Dan Burton (CEO). He sincerely cares so much about the team members and fully embodies the mission of the company. Thank you for all that you do for the company! Health Catalyst is generous with their compensation and benefits coupled with a manageable work/life balance. So far the team member experience has been enjoyable in that the majority lives out the HC values and operating principles daily. I also appreciate leaderships willingness to listen and respond back to feedback to find ways to improve the overall team member experience. Health Catalyst is a great place to work.

Cons

It appears promotions are difficult to come by unless you have connections with the "right" people. We need to find a fair process for promoting team members in a timely manner so that talent is retained within the company. I have witnessed too many great engineers leave HC.

Health Catalyst Response

Thank you for sharing this review, and for your kind words. They are very meaningful to me, and I will share with you that I do care about you and each team member at Health Catalyst, and that our team members' experience, wellbeing and engagement continue to be my #1 priority as CEO, ahead of customers and ahead of investors. I feel deep gratitude to you and your colleagues for your dedication and your commitment to the mission, each day, and with each assignment you fulfill. I'm grateful that you feel listened to, and that you feel well-treated from a benefits and a compensation perspective. This is deeply important to me, and we'll work to keep these elements of Health Catalyst in place. I also appreciate your feedback regarding promotions at Health Catalyst. We'll discuss this some more in our next All Team Member meeting, as this is an area of focus for us. Our intent is to enable every team member to qualify for meaningful promotions every few years as they expand their skill set and as the company has need of those expanded skills. We are tracking this rate of promotion across every team member, and are building a system around encouraging managers to regularly identify those team members for whom they have stewardship who have qualified for a promotion where there is a company need. We shared some data in one of last month's all-team-meetings, that after we implemented this proactive prompting of managers, that the rate of proposed promotions increased and became more consistent across teams. It will take some time for this systemic focus to have full effect, but we are encouraged by the results thus far this year. We'll keep working on this area. Thank you again for your review, and for choosing to come to Health Catalyst and to stay at Health Catalyst! Best, Dan

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
