Pros

I have seen a lot of change as HealthCatalyst has grown over the past 4 years. The mission to transform healthcare has remained the driving force of the entire company: executives, department leaders, team leads, and individual contributors. I feel the drive to contribute to that daily and it is so rewarding to see the customers I work with having success improving their business to enable better care and saving patient lives. I worried that the great culture of innovation, humility, and balance would decline as rapid growth occurred. But is has remained fully intact. A year ago, I was concerned that wage adjustments seemed hap-hazard, but a recent policy was put in place with annual, very generous wage increases, not tied to promotions. If I am enjoying and excelling in my current role, it now feels like I could remain long-term. I can stay in the technical space and not have to jump into management roles purely to increase my salary. I am excited for the future of HealthCatalyst, the vision of the executives here, and for my own career.

Cons

I have been involved in a few internal improvement projects that either fizzled out or that were taken over by other team members due to miscommunication around what was being done and by whom. I appreciate that we are drinking our own KoolAid by trying to create a culture of improvement, but I wish it was better organized and that the "squeaky wheels" (louder, more opinionated people) didn't have so much power to override legitimate improvement process results.

There will always be things to improve, as long as we are always collectively willing to try, I don't think I'll ever want to leave either! Thanks for all you do!

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
