Pros

Hayes is a smaller company, so everyone is very close and knows each other well. There are a lot of fun, team building events. The company's mission is very empowering and something to feel good about. You're helping staff and students at school districts around the country.

Cons

Working at Hayes is difficult. On the marketing team, I never had check-ins with my manager even though I was informed during hiring that all managers were required to have weekly 1:1s with employees (A huge selling point for me). I tried to take charge and ask for these meetings, but they still never happened. I didn't feel supported by my manager or like they cared about my growth. It’s also difficult trying to navigate the “power duo” dynamic in the office, which can often overshadow other differing opinions and make it difficult to collaborate. As a marketer, I don't think I've ever worked somewhere where the sales team had this little accountability. Marketing is expected to support them in any tasks (no matter how small), like downloading PDFs for them or changing their email signatures. Those small tasks (which could easily be accomplished by the sales team) took away from me being able to work toward our actual marketing goals. Other cons: You're expected to be available 24/7, Not a lot of trust between management and employees, Clique-y environment, Very little vacation time compared to other Austin companies
