Pros

35hrs a week billable + 5 hours a week open source. No overtime, no weekends. Full support when speaking in conferences. Annual conference budget for attending a conference of your choice. Pair programming with other senior developers who are a passionate about their craft. Small company where everyone knows everyone. Show and Tell every Friday to share what you learned or new projects you are working on. Instacart budget - make your own lunch every day. Friday team lunch. Work life balance is not just a buzzword. Flat organization - no managers of managers, start your own initiatives. :) Plenty of challenges so you are never bored with your job. Relaxed casual attire - t-shirts jeans and hoodies are welcome here. Work for a company with good reputation. We organize meetups - ChicagoElixir, and VimChi once a month each. You can optionally attend those if interested - pizza and beer included.

Cons

Consulting can be hard and it is not for everybody, you need to be able to communicate with clients and break down complex technical concepts.

Pros

Good benefits, great activities outside of work, and close family structure.

Cons

Very hard to get in to the group unless you are a very well known Ruby developer, you have to pair program with a partner and then there could be a week long interview that you have to work the entire week until they decide if you are right for the company. If you arent they let you know at the end of the week. If hired as an apprentice you could be let go after six months if they find someone better than you to replace you with.
